An untold story

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 32; the thirty-second edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is 'An Untold Story'

“There is an untold story that I want to share with you”, I said eagerly.
My friend’s eyes glazed over.
“If it has remained untold for this long, it can remain untold for a shade longer. What is the hurry?” he said and hurried away.
If you had a story that wants to burst out of you and you find that there is no one to tell it to, you can understand how I felt. I don’t know why it is this way but the very times I have the urgent need to tell something are the times when all my friends are too busy to listen. Has that happened with you, too?
“Listen! There is this untold story…”
“Ever heard of the man who said ‘I always lie’?” said my friend. That, also, happens to me. When I want to say something, my friends feel the pressing need to say something else. “That is logic that bites its own tail. If he always lied, he lied this time too. That means he always tells the truth. Which means that he was telling the truth when he said he always lied! Which means that he always lies! Which means…”
My patience was at an end. He seemed prepared to go on like this till the cows came home. “So? What do you want to say?”
“Once you start telling me the untold story, it ceases to be an untold story. So it can be an untold story only when you keep it untold”, he said and disappeared.
After he left, it struck me that his logic was fallacious. After all, if “I always lie” is false, the truth need not necessarily be “I always tell the truth”. It could well be “I sometimes lie”. That is another thing that keeps happening to me. I find the killer argument only after the time for arguing is long gone. Ever had that happen to you?
Having lost out with my friends, I had only my family to help me unburden myself.
“Hey Sis! I have this untold story that I want to tell you”
“It is always what you want with you. When have you ever bothered to understand what I want or what anyone else wants?”
Well! I assure you that this untold story that I have not told you is the greatest untold story that has not been told! Take my word for it!

  6. Sometimes, my mind fails to generate a comment on such great posts. Great? No, simple! Why simple? ..because you wrote nothing in this post. Oh, really? ..it seems that you wrote everything about the prompt. So, does not it mean that this post is great? And if this post is not great, how can I not think of a good comment?

  9. Loved this concept, CS. But it feels like it stopped before it could take off. It could have easily been a long yarn. I feel there is much more scope for this. Don't know whether you got constrained by low attention span of blog-a-ton readers.

    1. Of blog readers in general, TF! You have no idea how it pained me that most people did not read 'Desi Wild Hogs' through because it was long.

    2. It is truth, CS. People hate long posts. Even do I. It's better to write things in two-three parts than write them all in one post.

      Delete
    3. Tried that too with Marketing Battles. Did not work in parts either :(

      Delete
    4. I tried that too as a sequence but I am not sure how much a part holds the attention of the reader, enough to make him come back week after week? For this month's edition of BAT, my Untold Story kept going and going until I had to scrap it for the same reason, because people don't like long posts much! And then I redid the whole thing with a new angle - trying in vain to restrict the length, but then mine now looks like it ended too soon! Post lengths are always a problem!

  20. Hahaha, another gem from the Suresh mines. This logic of yours is enough to fox Emmanual Kant the great German philosopher & logician.
Now listen to my sob story-i held on to my marriage post to publish it for Blog-a-Ton today, but this code stuff was too much for poor me!It could not be!

may be I have started reading all your posts too well to anticipate this style of write up from you,
    short,crisp,engaging.

  27. You say 'After all, if “I always lie” is false, the truth need not necessarily be “I always tell the truth”. It could...'
Extending it; if you tell me the untold story, it needn't necessarily be 'the told story'.
Of course, you captured that killer argument.

    Anyways, quite an interesting take.

Do visit mine and if you do get through it, do share your thoughts.

    1. Yes, Indeed! It would be a told story to some but untold story still to others! I do hope you got the extension of the argument!!

    1. Thanks, Ash! When you opt for this sort of take, the optimal size is always difficult. You need to hit the end of the story before the reader's surprise at the way the tale is moving wears off and turns to boredom!

  33. so when is the untold story being told? :)

  34. ha ha...Only you can interpret the topic like this Suresh...Lol!

  35. :) I have to admit that you are an unconventional writer! :) I couldn't believe I have not only read your entry for the contest but also your responses to the remarks :D (Don't take me wrong, I don't have a lot of time at hand but I couldn't resist! :P )
A small confession, Just like a few of your readers I also avoid reading long posts, but I also wish to tell you- I always give reading a long post a try and If it is an interesting and griping post; I will finish it before I take up any other task.

Your take on the theme is beyond my imagination and is very different from the other stories!

All the Best for the BAT 32 :)

    3. I had written a 8 part series called Marketing Battles and that, I felt, could be gripping to you if you liked the humor genre. There was nothing offensive in your earlier comment and, so, there was no reason at all to take offense :)

  38. Okay! I found this one an extremely intelligent post. And I have very high respect for intelligent posts (and even movies). Ha :)

I was laughing when his friend just did not want to hear the story. Maybe, I could relate to it somewhere. :)

I really liked it Suresh. Now, when you are responding to this, please don't make me look up the dictionary Suresh. And that may look like a tantrum, but it isn't one. It's a form of banter???

    1. Thanks Kshitij! Hope I lived up to your request about not making you look up the dictionary :)

  39. loved the telling of the untold story...but the untold story told on you ...nothing new ...perhaps something remaining of the untold or the told perhaps ...did someone tell you that the story is a never before told tale of a brilliant wordplay never before told :)
